How are Bulgaria's agricultural lands being used today?

Areas for agricultural use in Bulgaria are have shrunk slightly over the year- with 0.1% to 52 229 250a. In comparison last year, they were 52 261 940a. Throughout the last three years, the agricultural areas are 47.1% from Bulgaria’s territory.

An good tendency of increasing the usable agricultural area is being observed. From 50 213 120 in 2016 to 50 374 700a this year.

Arable areas, mainly fields which are being seeded constantly have shrunk to 34 616 150a this year in comparison to 34 809 910a in 2016.

The areas, on which wheat is grown are increasing and have now reached 12 504 78a (12 156 840 in 2016). Cornfields the increase is even greater, from 4 687 620a. (2016) to 6 415 550a- this year.

A notable decrease is observed in sunflower crops. They have shrunk from 3 347 150 (2017) to 7 896 040- this year.

Temporary bean and wheat crops have notable increase. This is due the influence that the livestock farming and the financial support from the EU fund in the last 4 years.

Pastoral lands have decreased this year to 1 854 550a or with 5.3% from 2018.
